About Martin Hobby- Event Photographer Of The Year
Martin didn’t want to be a photographer, he wanted to study pottery and ceramics at school, but as he was the only one they decided not to run the course, so he took photography instead.
He already had a head start as his father had been a wedding photographer in the 70’s so taught him all about apertures and shutters speeds while he was very young.
Martin has always worked in photography shooting his 1st wedding at just 16 years old, when he got to 30 he once again tried to get out of photography and get a “proper job” but he just couldn’t settle into the 9-5 so started freelancing about 2 ½ years ago.
In the last couple of years Martin has won quite a few SWPP awards and now mainly shoots commercial work, band promo’s and live music…with a handful of weddings thrown in to the mix to keep him on his toes.
He loves the variety that comes with freelancing, for example one week last year, Martin was sitting 50 foot up an Oak tree while it was being cut down around him taking pictures for a Tree Surgeons company, the next day he was photographing handbags from the designer Patrick Cox, then at the weekend he was pointing his camera at Lemmy from Motorhead as they played to 10,000 people!
